Centaurium erythraea (Gentianaceae)

Common Centaury

Erect, angular-stemmed and branched biennial to 50cm. Leaves opposite. A basal rosette of spoon-shaped leaves with 3-7 veins. Flowers bright pink, with petals 8-12mm long. (c.f. C. pulchellum). Hillsides and open ground.

The Cypriot sub-species is larger flowered than elsewhere.
