Erodium gruinum (Geraniaceae)

Long-beaked Stork's Bill

Hairy, erect or spreading annual to 30cm. Leaves in a loose basal rosette, roughly toothed and lobed. Stems covered in white bristles. Flowers pale lavender-blue. Fruit with a long beak (to 7cm). The similar E. ciconium has "bills" up to 11cm long, but is distinguished by having deeply divided leaves.

Hills, fields and coastal sandy areas. Common.
