A large family of trees and shrubs originating in Asia, Africa, Australia and South America.

• No indigenous species are present in Cyprus, but Meikle (1985) notes that several species have been introduced as ornamentals. Specifically, Macadamia integrifolia (Queensland Nut), Hakea gibbosa and Hakea suaveolens (two Australian shrubs) and Grevillea robusta (the Silky Oak), a tree known to reach 30m in height.
